Understanding browser warning alerts
A browser warning alert that demands you call a support number is a scam. It is technically called a "browser locker." Unlike a real virus that silently steals data in the background, browser lockers are loud and aggressive because they rely on psychological manipulation. They want to scare you into calling a phone number.
How they work
