- Computer does not detect printer when connected
- USB printer not recognized by Windows
- Ethernet-connected printer not found on network
- Bluetooth printer pairing fails or disconnects
- Printer shows in Device Manager with an error
Common Causes
- USB printer driver not installed — Windows shows it as an unknown device
- USB cable damaged or using a hub that limits power
- Ethernet cable not connected firmly or switch port issue
- Bluetooth pairing cleared and needs to be re-paired
- Windows assigned the wrong port or no port to the printer
What to Check First
- For USB printers: try connecting the printer directly to a USB port on the computer (not through a hub). Try a different USB port and cable if available.
- Open Device Manager (Windows key + X → Device Manager) and look for any device with a yellow warning icon — this may indicate your printer is detected but the driver is missing.
- For network-connected printers: verify the Ethernet cable is connected firmly and the port light on the switch or router is lit.
- For Bluetooth printers: remove the existing pairing on both the computer and the printer, then pair again fresh.
- Verify the printer port in Windows (Devices and Printers → right-click printer → Printer properties → Ports tab) matches the connection type and address.
If none of these steps resolve the problem, a Nanicto technician can connect remotely and check your printer configuration directly. We will diagnose the problem and determine whether it can be resolved remotely.
