- Scanner not found in scanning software
- Scan software shows 'No scanner detected'
- Scanner was working but stopped after driver update
- Can print but cannot scan
- Scanned documents not saving or appearing blank
Common Causes
- Scan driver not installed — some printers require a separate scan driver from the basic print driver
- Firewall blocking the scan communication on the network
- Wrong scanner software for the printer model
- Scanner software not compatible with the current OS version
- Network scanner requires the scanner to be registered with Scan to Computer feature
What to Check First
- Verify that the full driver package is installed — not just the basic print driver. Many scanners require the full feature driver to function.
- Check if your scanner software (e.g., Epson Scan 2, HP Scan, Canon IJ Scan Utility, Brother ControlCenter) is installed and can detect the scanner.
- For network scanners: verify the 'Scan to Computer' feature is enabled in the printer's network settings. Some printers require this to be registered separately.
- Verify your firewall allows the scanner software to communicate on the network.
- Try connecting the printer via USB temporarily to test if the scanner works with a direct connection — this helps isolate whether the issue is network-related.
If none of these steps resolve the problem, a Nanicto technician can connect remotely and check your printer configuration directly. We will diagnose the problem and determine whether it can be resolved remotely.
